Spilled soda on wire?

After years of use, my laptop charger (Toshiba brand) has begun to fray near where it connects to the laptop. I ordered a new one yesterday but it will take 10-14 business days to get here. Tonight my cat was sleeping on the desk next to my soda while I was on the computer and it spilled. The only part of the computer it touched was the few wires sticking out of the charger, it just splashed them. I turned the power off the laptop and unplugged it and all external devices and cleaned up the soda. Can it start on fire without being plugged in/on? This is my biggest concern at the moment. Also, is it safe to use (stupid question?) and what should I do? I'm terrified it will blow up (or at least start on fire).
